rumination



Do you think about things? A whole lot?

(I do).
And sometimes that is a good thing. But sometimes thinking can degenerate.
Folk tend to assumethat self-reflection will naturally lead to greater well.being but it doesn't necessarily work that way. There's some interesting research that indicates that when self-reflection becomes ruminative, it can decrease well-being and discourage goal-attainment.

The good.news (and I like good.news) is that constructive self-reflection and insight does enhance subjective well-being and facilitate goal-attainment.

[It's just a matter of staying away from those churning, cogitating thought patterns.]
