marmots

Marmots are little squirrels. They are social animals. They live in family units, in burrows grouped close to other burrows, forming a village.

They sleep for most of the winter. But in summer they come out to play.

The colour of their fur helps to conceal them from predators but they are still susceptible. When marmots are alarmed, they whistle, alerting all the other marmots to the danger.

Marmots look out for one another.
