One of the Learning to Love You More assignments is to write advice to yourself in the past.I had been turning ideas over in my brain but I hadn’t written anything down. Then an Excellent-Person-I-Know wrote to me with the advice that she would give her own little-self. And that encouraged me.
After writing and deleting and writing some more, I emerged with one sentence. It turns out that the advice I would give Little-Upstairs-Alex is exactly the same advice that I still give Big-Upstairs-Alex:
Know that you are more than enough, exactly as you are.
Most days it goes without saying but other days, I am less convinced.
I wonder whether I will still be gently reminding myself of the same thing in fifty years.
